Happy Birthday Jesus,
December 25th, is celebrated as Jesus' birthday. Is it really his birthday? Probably not. Does the exact date matter? Again probably not. Some biblical scholars say it probably took place closer to April. The thing that does matter, is the humble birth of The Most Controversial MAN ever born, JESUS.
Today, most people say Merry Christmas, Merry X-mas. Those trying to be politically correct or trying to deny his birth all together, may say Happy Holidays or Seasons Greetings or (Bah Hum Bug). Truth is (to me anyways) none of these seem to describe the events of the night Jesus was born.
Jesus never had a house or bed to call his own. He never held esteem in the eyes of the elite of his day, in fact just the opposite. Born in a stable of poor parents, laid in a feed troth, wrapped in rags, the witnesses to his birth were animals. His first visitors were the lowest of low of that day, Shepherds. His in-laws were not mentioned in scriptures as being at his birth or by name.
This one event. Changed how the world would continue forward for evermore! The calender goes up in years every January 1st, since his birth. (By most evidence its pretty safe to say he was not born in 1B.C. but a couple years earlier.) Many try to discount or deny altogether, His Birth, Life, Death and Resurrection all key elements of his life.
This Christmas do you worship the birth of our Saviour, the King of kings, the Lord of lords? Or do you run frantically around looking for gifts for people in your life? Rushing to find one last, last minute gift to fulfill your list.
Christmas today, has become about materialism and store bottom lines, it has moved away from the true meaning of Christmas or as some say "the reason for the season." Fact is, all we need is a birthday cake and Jesus to celebrate his birth, all these years later. On Jesus' birthday, God gave us the gift, not us giving him or someone else a gift. This day, so long ago, God gave us the gift in his Son. Which would make Salvation possible only through professing Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour.
The gifts from the wise men to Jesus didn't happen at the stable. Matthew Chapter 2, tells us the wise men "came into the house where the young child and his mother were." Herod, hearing someone was born to be a King, ordered the slaughter of all the boy children 2 years old and younger, in Bethlehem and the surrounding area.
Today some people refuse to acknowledge Jesus as the son of God or part of the God head (Trinity). If you refuse him as part of the Trinity read John 17, today. Others hate him, never really knowing who they hate. They will try anything to wipe the name of Jesus or God or any reference to them, from the public. Truth is you have to acknowledge the existence of someone before you can say he doesn't exist at all.
The question is, do you worship the risen Saviour on his birthday this Christmas? Or do you see this December 25th as a holiday of gifts and a time for the family to get together? A time some experts say is a time of extreme stress! Banks treasure it as one of the highest credit card balances of the year.
Will your family worship Jesus with a birthday cake and sing "Happy Birthday to You Jesus" and celebrate his birth? As for me and my family we will worship Jesus' birth!
May you and your family find the true meaning and use for his Birthday this Christmas.
Happy Birthday Jesus!!!
